Producing solar energy directly into the open space
A team of Japan Aerpspace Exploration (JAXA) and Osaka University for laser engineering are about to cause a revolution in technology. Instead, the yield of solar energy to get old-fashioned way, by capturing the sun, caught on the ground, scientists have discovered a way to get solar energy from space, reports Inhabitat. The technology is named Space Solar Power System (SSPS) and has the ability to capture solar radiation outside the earth’s orbit, then takes her to the ground. One such instrument, located in space, would generate enough power for more than 500 thousand homes.
Although it sounds like science fiction technology is actually quite simple. It consists of a solar satellite, which collects energy laser beams through it leads to the ground. Satellite itself can be positioned at about 41.48 kilometers above the equator.
The boars of satellites will be made of special ceramic material containing chromium and neodimium. Its role is to absorb sunlight and transform them into lasers.
Advantage of new technology is that the solar energy will be possible 24 hours and will not depend directly on sunny days - as ground systems located.
The final completion of the technology expected in 2030.
