Green Energy - Danish Town Becomes A Pioneer
Danish port town has the ambition to Frederikshaun 2015 to become the first city on the planet, powered entirely by renewable energy.
Huddled between the lovely green hills in the northern part of Denmark and the Kattegat protoka this city, which previously had marine base and now has 25 000 inhabitants, is determined to do for seven years his “green revolution” and to become a showcase of technology clean energy and a model to follow for other cities around the world.
In Scandinavian Kingdom at the beginning of the era of green energy, an island - Samsyo already paved the way today is power 100% of electricity supplied by its wind farms, and 75% of solar batteries and biomass.

However Frederikshaun case is different because its plans are more extensive. The project, called “Frederikshaun, Energy City” launched in 2008 the city hall is very ambitious, Mikael Kau recognizes his head. Now only a quarter of the energy in the city comes from alternative energy sources. According to Kau, however, the project will be accomplished through the energy of wind, the sun, the biogas from household and agricultural waste.
Enterprises as “Dong Energy already have been involved in the project, which is vital to its success, Kau said. Investments to be made is estimated at between 1 billion and 1.5 billion Danish kroner between 134 million and 201 million euros. These funds are provided by private companies.
From the roof of city hall, where the spectacular view opens to the city, Mayor Eric Syorensen stresses that the entire town council supports the project.
“It is essential that everyone take their responsibilities in combating global warming in a world where the consumption of fossil fuels threatens the living conditions of the world,” he says.
For Mayor project Frederikshaun is an opportunity for new environmental technologies and create jobs in this city, destroyed a dozen years before the closure of its shipyards, which left 7000 people without work.
Elected in 2006 from the best experts Frederikshaun was the perfect place to create an experimental laboratory and to show that it is possible using existing technology to move a few years of consumption of fossil fuels to a 100% energy from renewable sources.
The authorities of the city that were home to such renowned speakers as former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, decided it must act after I learned about dramatic perspectives related to climate.
“I had to do something instead of waiting for the whole world to agree,” reminds the mayor of the city. He stresses that Frederikshaun project has begun, following the principle: “Why not start on a small scale of our town.”
But public support is necessary for the success of the initiative, says Marie Halgor Nielsen, responsible for the participation of the inhabitants of the city project.
“People ask whether it is worth the effort and want to know whether this project will bring the city jobs or economic growth,” she states. Added that just for this reason the House of the environment in the city was organized debate on the issue prirodozashtitnitsi. Nielsen hopes that they prirodozashtitnitsite will promote the benefits of the project.
Field stands in front of solar batteries, located in an area of 8000 sq. meters and related heating plant, Syorsen Fleming, director of the complex suggests that the government will show real political will.
“We can succeed if we help, he turned to the government, which he defended renewables only words, but no cases without the necessary resources to develop them.
Head
Denmark is among the first countries in Europe in green power per capita. Currently, nearly 30 percent of energy is renewable Denmark indicates European statistics. And other western countries, Denmark is seeking to reduce its dependence on imported fuel after the Arab oil embargo of 1973 I was made a transition from thermal power stations to coal and oil Danish cities have started to be heated incinerated its waste. Rise of alternative energy began in the 80’s. Currently the largest share in the “green” energy production there is wind - over 5500 working in the wind at the moment and most of them are offshore (at sea). According to European statistics, from the beginning of the program to promote wind power in Denmark until now price in the country fell by 75 percent.
