Reasons keeping us from acting to save our Earth?

Question by Green ay: Reasons keeping us from acting to save our Earth?
I live in Australia (not very polluted compared to world wide countries) and I have realised that when I leave to go into the suburban areas like the city it’s just full of polluted air. At this present moment the sky is blue however in Beijing it is grey. It is only a matter of population increase until Australia is in China’s state and it doesn’t help that the government is paying people to breed (some young people just have babies for drug money) The demand for resources increases as the population does. My point is that our world is in our hands (and getting out of hand) and I’m just curious, why do we still continue to pollute our world from living on a daily basis. It just seems to me that people aren’t taking these matters of global warming as serious as they really are. We can change our ways of living to stop our blue skies from going grey due to pollution today. We have all the resources and the power there is to do it. We can convert all households to Solar (rather than burning coal for electricity) and have cars that are hydrogen or hybrid (to decrease CO2) but why don’t we? What is stopping us? The cost? >Money is not going to be able to buy back our blue sky once it’s too late, and certainly won’t be able to save the polar bears and penguins that are currently living in the melting Arctic and Antarctic that we’re continuously destroying by living our everyday lives.

I have asked numerous people what they think of the future state of the world and how we are destroying it for generations to come. The usual reply: “Doesn’t bother me. I won’t be here!”
I guess I’m just considerate for the future generations and our children’s, gran kids because I just can’t see how you can’t care! Whether the world ends tomorrow or in 140 years, I don’t want it to end at all! Our ozone layer (a blanket protecting our earth) is getting thinner as all the chemicals and pollution (from aerosol cans, air conditioners and car exhaust) are breaking it down. In years to come the UV rays from the sun will just be too harsh on humans and any life on Earth, as that ozone layer is what provides our Earth coverage.

Why aren’t we doing anything with our smart brains and technology that we have? We have come so far with technology to destroy the world so why can’t we come just as far to save it? Architects should be designing households and building structures that are eco-friendly and sustainable – not requiring supplies of additional appliances and electricity. People used to live in Queenslander homes with nice big verandas surrounding the house with open windows and doors. Now its brick homes and shopping centres that are in demand of air-conditioning due to poor ventilation. In summer it’s a high demand of aircon, in winter its burning volts of heaters. The more we artificialise our Earth the more natural disasters it will promise us like floods, and rising water levels which bring us back to using more resources to replace everything and hence the cycle continues. Can’t we at least try to prevent it from reoccurring with our technologies and alternative, more sustainable ways?

    Greed

The people in power only care about getting richer.

They are starting to come around because they have made their investments in green tech so they can save the planet and become even richer.

Lets just hope it’s not too late like I suspect it is.

In my lifespan alone, the world has deteriorated considerably. I can see the changes everywhere I travel and it’s a sad thing. I do what I can for the environment, recycle, conserve, etc. but I can see it’s a losing battle because the vast majority of people just don’t care. So live your life and enjoy what’s left of this beautiful world we inhabit.

I’ve been a scientist for over 20 years, so here’s my take on your concerns. Yes we should be pursuing more efficient housing, cars and everything so we use as little energy as necessary. Currently many of the new technologies are too expensive to be practical, but there are plenty that are. And as the new technology comes down in price we should implement that too. There is a lot that can be done with insulation and other passive ways to build a house.

As for man made global warming and the concern over CO2… I don’t buy it. I know 3 climate scientists and all have been calling this a scam since the early 90′s. They talked about how people could milk a series of grants for decades as long as they proved that global warming was real. If they proved it wasn’t real of even questioned it, then that was the last grant they received. I don’t call that objective science. They said privately there is an attitude that it’s a joke, but it pays the bills. Then there are a few that actually believe in AGW.

Now we find that the original data was altered (faked) I don’t see how anybody can take this seriously. Plus the guys at East Anglican would conspire to discredit any scientist who questioned man made global warming.

Look at the video I attached, and look for others.
