Synopsis on Solar energy
Solar energy or energy derived from the sun’s rays is an ecological friendly and efficient means of extracting power from sun. It has been used for generations, but is gaining importance only recently due to environmental concerns raised by many due to the drawbacks of power generation using conventional methods. Solar energy has many purposes, it can be used for electricity generation, lighting, agricultural purposes, ventilation systems, cooking, to power vehicles, water treatment solar water heater etc.

Solar distillation is a process whereby saline water can be converted into drinkable water and also be used for agricultural purposes thus sustaining livelihood.
While making a decision on whether to utilize solar power as an alternative source of energy you should look at the costs involved in setting up the solar panels and energy collectors. The solar panels are expensive and are a one-time investment which makes it a difficult proposition for a lot of people as they are unable to make a huge investment at one go. Besides this, to maintain the solar power and to make it available during the night you are required to use energy collectors which are also expensive. Also, while deciding whether to apply solar energy, you should see if the suns rays reach where you will be installing the solar panels, otherwise it would be a waste of the investment. For instance in an area like the North Pole, you will require alternate energy sources for the time of year which does not receive too much sunlight.
Having looked at all the pros and cons of using solar energy, it is evident that although we may spend a lot of installing all the solar components initially, we have a considerable saving on the electricity bills for a number of years which is beneficial to us in the long haul. Besides this, we are all doing whatever we can to maintain an ecological balance and solar energy is the biggest step in tapping natural resources in the most efficient manner.
